Intense Glass Shards
Our shards are very intense and are compatible with 96 coe glass. They have a high lead content which makes them usable with Moretti (104 COE), Bullseye (90 COE), or Gaffer (96 COE) glass. Because of the high lead content, ventilation is necessary. Our shards may be used freely with any 96 COE glass, but should be used minimally (5-10%) with glass of other COE's.
Glass shards can be used for lampworking and fusing. They are very thin glass shards. Some are thicker than others but still very thin. These shards can be broken in smaller pieces very easily.
How to work with shards: First clean your shards. Make a base bead and then grab your shard with tweezers while keeping your base bead warm in the flame. Preheat the shard in the back of the flame (not too hot or it will shrivel up), then attach a corner of the shard to the base bead and slowly wrap and pull the shard over the bead. Keep heating and pulling from all corners along the way. You can also roll your molten bead over small pieces to attach. In Fusing you just place them on your glass piece and fire them.
Shards will work very well with silver, gold or palladium foil/leaf over or under them. Try encasing or leaving them raised for a more textural look (remember, no undercuts). Don't forget to try adding some frit blends for a more colorful effect. Play with them, they're a lot of fun!
Individual colored shards are packaged in 1.5oz. jars.
